The Creative Placemaking Strategy Advisory Committee reviewed a public-facing story map prototype that will show Mariposa County public artworks and asked the ad hoc team to expand text, add artist links and improve images before wider promotion.
A committee presenter said Ben Ogran assembled the story map using a Truckee template and that initial work has focused on adding photos and basic metadata. Committee members recommended adding artist statements, funding attributions and links to artists’ websites and the Arts Council project pages.
The nut graf: The committee responded positively and directed the ad hoc group and staff to complete the data set and coordinate a single update workflow so the GIS-hosted map can be kept current without frequent manual emails.
Committee members discussed image sizing, thumbnail detail shots for hard-to-photograph sculptures, and the idea of linking the story map from the Arts Council web pages. Members agreed staff would explore a shared GIS login or a single staff contact to manage updates and to meet before the next advisory meeting to fill gaps in the spreadsheet that backs the story map.
Several artworks were identified as missing or needing verification, including murals at Mariposa Elementary School and Woodland School, the John Wayne storefront mural in Coulterville (attributed to Jim Leitzel), and public sculpture by Alex Lewis; committee members noted access limitations to some school‑site murals when gates are closed.
Ending: The ad hoc committee will meet to complete artist statements, funding attributions and image submissions; staff will follow up on hosting and link options and report progress at the next advisory committee meeting.
