Council fixes ordinance error in Research Technology District; planning commission had recommended correction

Plano — The City Council unanimously approved a minor zoning ordinance amendment on Monday to remove an outdated subsection of the Research Technology District that a staff review identified as an error introduced when the comprehensive zoning ordinance was updated.
Planning staff said the Research Technology District was amended in 2011 and that, when the city repealed and readopted the full zoning ordinance in 2015, the subsection was incorrectly retained in some versions of the code. The update proposed in zoning case 2025‑008 removes that language and corrects related parking requirements.
Christina Day, director of planning, said the change was straightforward and that the planning and zoning commission recommended approval 8‑0. There were no speakers during the public hearing and council voted 8‑0 to adopt the ordinance amendment.
Action: motion to approve zoning case 2025‑008 (removal of subsection 10.130.4) passed 8‑0; outcome: approved.
The ordinance correction affects implementation of the Research Technology District’s parking requirements and removes standards that staff said were not recommended by council in 2011.
