Council approves $125,000 budget amendment for Riverside Park Golf Course parking lot resurfacing

Council approved on first reading an ordinance amending the fiscal-year budget for the golf-course fund by $125,000 to pay for resurfacing and repairs at the Riverside Park Golf Course parking lot.
City staff explained the project scope: repair failed areas in the middle of the lot, raise a low area to drain to the grate, install a one-inch asphalt overlay, reinstall approximately 115 bumper blocks and restripe the lot. Staff said the lot's base and foundation remain in good condition and that resurfacing (rather than full reconstruction) is appropriate; the contractor was identified through BuyBoard procurement and was vetted at a San Antonio site visit.
A council member asked whether the work was resurfacing or full reconstruction given past flooding; staff responded the base material and structural base are in good condition and only surface repairs and limited localized base repairs are needed. After a public hearing with no speakers, a council member moved to adopt the ordinance on first reading; the motion passed by voice vote.
A subsequent formal award to the BuyBoard contractor will return to council on Sept. 16 for contract approval.
