Commission approves storm‑sewer change order and Consumers Energy lighting contract for Moyer Avenue intersection

The Alma City Commission approved change order No. 1 to the Moyer Avenue water system/street reconstruction contract with Crawford Contracting for $29,800 to cover additional storm‑sewer work and repairs.

Public services staff described a long‑neglected storm line between two houses that had been obstructed and failing to drain to the county ditch. Staff reported they cleaned and regraded roughly 250 feet of open ditch, removed vegetation, installed a new outlet head with grate and riprap, and regraded the channel so it will gravity drain. Staff said the work addressed a storm drainage problem identified during the Moyer reconstruction.

Separately, the commission approved a standing lighting contract with Consumers Energy to remove a string light at the Moyer and Hubbell intersection, replace it with an LED fixture mounted on a new pole with an extension arm, and authorize the mayor and clerk to execute the contract. Staff said the existing poles were in poor condition and the new configuration reduces the risk of a low‑hanging fixture and improves reliability.

Both measures were approved by voice vote. Staff noted the storm work was substantially less expensive than earlier estimates because cleaning and limited regrading resolved the immediate drainage issue.
