City staff said the new blowers will save an estimated $20,000 a year in energy costs and will be compatible with planned upgrades to the plant’s SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system. Staff described how the blowers and software will automate oxygen infusion in the treatment process that is currently adjusted manually.
The commission approved the purchase by motion and voice vote. Staff thanked the team that prepared the grant application and noted the Nexus program had limited funds; the city secured $30,000 from a $200,000 program pool.
Next steps include installation coordinated with planned SCADA upgrades so the new equipment can operate under automated control.
