The Eastpointe City Council voted on Aug. 19 to extend the School Resource Officer (SRO) agreement between the Eastpointe Police Department and the Eastpointe Community School District for one additional year and authorized the city manager to sign the contract extension on the city's behalf.
Councilmember DeMonaco made the motion to extend the SRO agreement for one year; the motion passed on a recorded roll call. The council did not amend the agreement text during the meeting and provided no additional conditions on the extension.
Why it matters: School resource officer contracts establish a funded policing presence in school buildings and define duties, schedules and cost-sharing arrangements between the district and the city. Extending the contract preserves the current SRO relationship for the coming school year.
