Pine Top Lakeside council unanimously moves into executive session on interim town manager appointment

The Pine Top Lakeside Town Council convened a special meeting Oct. 11 and, by unanimous vote, moved into an executive session to discuss the appointment of an interim town manager and to consult with the council’s legal counsel.

“We have 1 item on our agenda this morning that is discussion and possible legal action regarding the appointment of an interim town manager,” the presiding officer said before reading the statutory grounds allowing a closed session. The presiding officer recited the executive-session language, saying in part, “Upon a public majority of the members constituting a quorum, a public body may hold an executive session...discussion or consideration of employment, assignment, appointment, promotion, demotion, dismissal, salaries, disciplining, or resignation of a public officer, appointee, or employee of any public body...Or item 3 is discussion or consultation for legal advice with the attorney or attorneys of the public body.”

A councilmember moved and a councilmember seconded the motion to enter executive session; the presiding officer called for those in favor to raise their hands and said, “That carries unanimously.” The council said it will return to the public meeting and take any formal action in public after the executive session.

The meeting record shows a single agenda item and a quorum was present. No public votes or an appointment of an interim town manager were recorded in the public portion of the meeting transcript provided.
