The Pinetop Lakeside Town Council approved Resolution 25-1778 to name a new street within town limits "E Goby Lane," clarified in the motion as East Goby Lane, which will serve the Tea Tree teacher-housing project.
Matt (staff member) described the Gabby family’s community ties and said the road will access the Tea Tree project, which seeks teacher housing. "They have asked the tea tree project has asked the town to build the road in. They're hoping to get the materials and then we would be doing the blading and grading, through our IGA with the school," Matt said.
A council member raised a concern about the use of the leading letter "E" in the street name, saying it can cause confusion for emergency responders if the prefix is not clearly East. Matt said he would verify and could return the item to council for renaming if necessary.
When asked about timing for the residences, Matt said the town was waiting for the intergovernmental agreement with the school to be renewed and estimated that road work would likely be completed in late summer, but he did not provide a firm completion date.
A motion to adopt Resolution 25-1778 was moved and seconded; the council voted and the mayor declared the motion carried unanimously.
The council did not amend the chosen name during the meeting; Matt said the name met town rules and could be revisited if emergency-response concerns remain.
