Parks staff updated the commission May 21 on two capital initiatives: a trails master plan and progress on Sunbelt Park.
Staff said the trails master plan will cover city trails and connecting routes such as the Sun Corridor Trail and Arizona Peace Trail, and will involve stakeholders including the Bureau of Land Management, Mohave County and ADOT. A stakeholder kickoff and First Friday outreach about trails were planned.
On Sunbelt Park, staff reported they issued an RFQ and conducted interviews to select a construction manager at risk (CMAR). The park design is about 60% complete and the drainage channel design is approximately 90% complete. Staff said they are obtaining an archaeological study required to apply for Arizona State Parks grants and that the CMAR will help refine constructability and cost-saving measures.
Staff also noted preliminary ideas that could be included in the park if funding allows, such as turf, a playground element and a splash pad, and said public engagement will continue as design and funding efforts proceed.
