Staff updated the commission on two ongoing consultant-led efforts: an economic development strategic plan and a feasibility study for a potential Kingman events center.
The consultants for the economic development strategic plan have analyzed stakeholder interviews, reviewed the city’s general plan and other baseline materials and are preparing recommendations about economic positioning and strategic goals. Staff said the consultants will meet with the city this week and that the plan work could continue through the next commission meeting; the consultants are considering project impacts such as the Flying Fortress interchange and I-40 trade corridor.
On the event-center feasibility study, staff reported strong community engagement. "If you haven't had a chance to go and do the community survey, please do so. It's www.kingmaneventcenter.com, and there's a survey on there," staff said, and added that as of the morning of the meeting, 1,320 responses had been received. Consultants (CSL) have completed initial analysis and staff said CSL will give a condensed presentation to City Council on July 1 outlining findings to date and next steps.
No formal decisions were made; staff said they aim to complete the feasibility study and strategic plan in coming weeks and will bring consultant updates to the commission and to City Council as appropriate.
