Kingman council accepts donated mural for Metcalfe Park restroom building

The Kingman City Council voted unanimously to accept a donation of a mural for the restroom building at Charles Metcalfe Park, the council announced after a presentation from the sponsoring group and the mural artist.
The mural, proposed by Sounds of Kingman and recommended for approval by the Parks, Aquatics, Recreation and Trails Commission, will be painted on the side of the restroom facing Grandview Avenue so it is visible to motorists and visitors. The sponsoring organization will fund installation and ongoing maintenance; city staff told the council there will be no cost to the city for the artwork.
Robin Gordon, representing Sounds of Kingman, introduced the project and the artist. Gordon said the group selected the restroom wall for its visibility and added that the mural team will use two protective coatings — one to protect against UV damage and another to make graffiti easier to remove. She credited staff help in recommending including a central heart-shaped element with the words “Kingman, Arizona” as part of the mural’s design.
Local artist Monica Galick Galicia described her timeline and approach and said she expects to work early mornings to avoid heat and to complete the mural within a few weeks; she told the council she expects it will be installed and in place by the summer season and "definitely be done by this summer."
Mike Meersman from city staff introduced the item and noted the Parks Commission had voted unanimously to recommend the mural. Gordon said Sounds of Kingman will also maintain the mural and fund both the painting and protective coatings.
Councilmember (unnamed) moved to accept the donation; another councilmember seconded. The council’s motion passed by voice vote with all present members saying "aye." The council did not record a roll‑call vote by name that evening.
The group invited the public to the next Metcalfe Park concert season; organizers said the park's upcoming concert is free to the public.
