Staff said the current ASU Project Cities team has not yet completed its work: public engagement is finished and produced roughly 400 survey responses and a community engagement event at the Beale Street Theater. Staff reported receiving draft case studies by email and said a final playbook document will arrive later in July for staff and commission review. "We do have the public engagement that's completed. We had about 400 surveys that were completed," staff said.
The commission reviewed whether the city should continue participating in future semesters. Commissioners generally supported continuing the partnership but asked staff to return with a short list of possible future projects that fit student timelines and deliver value for the city. Commissioners emphasized designing projects with limited scope so students can complete usable deliverables within the semester or summer extension.
Staff noted the Project Cities team extended work into the summer when students felt additional time was required to meet the agreed scope. The commission did not take formal action but directed staff to propose future project ideas and to provide the final playbook and draft case studies for commission review once received.
