Council authorizes certification of city financial capability for Big Sioux flood-control study

The Watertown City Council on Aug. 4 authorized the chief financial officer to certify that the city has the financial capability to satisfy its obligations for the Big Sioux flood-control study and authorized staff to sign future related documents. City engineer Justin Peterson told the council the Corps of Engineers received additional funding and the city will receive $350,000 for the project. Peterson said the city already paid about $185,000 toward the study and that amount will be reimbursed. The certification is the first required signature; city staff indicated additional documents will follow and staff authorization now will allow timely execution. The council approved a motion to authorize the certification by voice vote; council members described the reimbursement as a positive outcome after earlier local expenditures on the study.
