Council approves $23,000 change order for Nelson Park pickleball court orientation and fencing

The Watertown City Council approved a change order Aug. 4 for the 2024 park-and-recreation improvements at Nelson Park. City engineer Justin Peterson told the council the change order adjusts final quantities to modify the orientation of pickleball courts and add fencing, producing "a better product." The change order increases the contract by roughly $23,000 to a new contract price of about $135,058. Peterson and staff said the project remains under budget and recommended approval. City attorney Carico confirmed the item was properly presented as a single motion. Councilman Hoyer asked a clarifying question about whether the change order was triggered by design changes; Peterson confirmed it was. The council approved the change order on a voice vote.
