PHS receives $50,000 Healthy School award from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation

The Board of Trustees recognized PHS after the school received a $50,000 Healthy School Award from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation during its Aug. 11 meeting. The award, announced by a board member, was presented to what the board called “team PHS” in a brief ceremony that invited school leaders to the front of the meeting room. "Congratulations, team PHS, for your hard work and enthusiasm in applying for and receiving the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation Healthy School Award in the amount of $50,000," the board member said. The board invited Principal Milton Ray III, Positive Behavior Support Specialist Robin Thornton and Counselor Destiny Miller to be acknowledged. The recognition noted the school’s efforts to promote healthy habits among students and thanked staff and community partners for support. The recognition was ceremonial; no formal board action tied to the award was recorded in the meeting minutes. The award and the board’s acknowledgement were presented at the start of the meeting before the evening’s informational reports and presentations.
