Ukiah Valley Fire District reports 100% completion of state-mandated inspections under SB 1205

The Ukiah Valley Fire District on Monday presented a resolution acknowledging the district’s compliance with SB 1205 and California Health and Safety Code section 13146.4, reporting that the district completed all required state fire inspections within the applicable period.
Matt, the district presenter, told directors that at the same point last year the district’s completion rate was about 52% within 12 months and 100% within 18 months; this year the district achieved a 100% completion rate for initial inspections within the reporting period.
“This year, I believe for the first time, at least in a very long time, we've completed 100% of all of our state inspections,” Matt said.
The report breaks the inspections down by occupancy type: staff recorded 26 Group E occupancies (schools and similar), 448 residential occupancies (buildings with three or more units, hotels, motels), and 8 Group I occupancies (custodial care such as jails or juvenile facilities). The presenter said the total counted was 482 initial inspections and that the total does not include return or final inspections performed after initial findings.
Board members questioned staffing capacity for the inspections. Matt said most of the work was performed by a single fire inspector, with the presenter and other staff helping as needed, and noted the large workload equated to roughly two inspections per workday over the period.
Board members and staff said the district bills for inspections on a cost-recovery basis and that the district’s next goal is to increase the rate of return/completion for abatements and final inspections so that initial findings are resolved more quickly.
The board voted 5–0 to adopt the resolution acknowledging the report.
