City and county staff briefed council Aug. 4 on the updated Clark County comprehensive solid waste management plan, which incorporates the 2024 organics management law and assigns regional and city roles; council will consider a resolution of adoption next week after staff review and minor corrections were noted.
City and county staff briefed Vancouver City Council on Aug. 4 about the revised Clark County Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan and told council a resolution adopting the plan will be on next week’s agenda.
Sarah Schrader, project manager for Clark County, said the updated plan covers solid waste, recycling and organics management across Clark County, incorporates the 2024 organics management law, clarifies roles for the county and individual cities, and establishes an amendment process to accommodate future legislative changes. City staff said the county engaged extensively with local stakeholders and that city feedback had been incorporated.
City environmental services staff said the plan will be incorporated into the city’s strategic planning documents and climate action framework. Councilor comments were limited; one councilor noted a formatting error (a misplaced decimal) on a page and staff agreed to refer that correction to county staff.
Staff said the formal resolution of adoption will return to council next week for action.
