Mike Matheson, the newly hired golf pro, told the commission he is implementing operational changes to improve pace of play and prepare patrons for the arrival of 90 new GPS-enabled carts.
Matheson said he is reeducating staff and patrons about tee-time etiquette and signups and has already requested four early weekend tee times (05:58, 06:06, 06:14, 06:22) beginning Sunday, Aug. 24, to reduce walk-on congestion at the first tee. “Please make a tee time. The days of walking in and starting at 05:30 just can't happen anymore,” he said. He described a new cart-assignment policy that will require golfers to take the specific cart they sign for “for liability reasons” and said the policy will be phased in to prepare patrons for the new fleet.
Matheson and other commissioners discussed recurring communication problems between the pro shop and the third-party platform Golf Now: patrons sometimes receive email confirmations that do not appear on the local tee sheet. Matheson said he has contacted Golf Now to correct synchronization problems and will monitor the issue.
Matheson also outlined plans for a course rerating scheduled for Sept. 15 and asked for broad stakeholder input on handicap holes and the scorecard. He proposed soliciting input from the men's and women's clubs and the commission to produce a new scorecard if rerating requires it.
Several operational enforcement items were discussed as staff-level actions rather than commission policy changes: marshaling and cart messages will be used to remind players about cart limits near greens once the new GPS carts arrive; staff said some measures require additional staffing to enforce consistently. No formal votes were taken; Matheson will return with updates on Golf Now fixes, new-cart arrival dates and the rerating survey.
