The Chehalis City Council voted Monday, Aug. 11, 2025, to accept a Federal Aviation Administration Airport Infrastructure Grant to fund an environmental assessment for a proposed Northeast Apron at the Chehalis-Centralia Airport. The environmental assessment is a prerequisite to future apron design and construction and to the FAA's environmental determination under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
Brandon, the airport director, told the council the airport master plan identified the Northeast Apron as necessary to expand aircraft parking and support future aviation activity. He said the total estimated project cost is $247,531; the FAA grant covers 95% ($235,155) and the airport's 5% match ($12,376) will come from airport capital improvement funds. Brandon said there is no anticipated impact on the city's general fund.
The council moved and approved acceptance of the FAA grant and authorized the city manager to execute related documents. The action advances the environmental-review phase so the airport can proceed to later design and construction phases if the FAA's environmental determination supports the project.
No dissent or roll-call vote tally was recorded in the meeting minutes; the motion was approved by voice vote at the meeting.
