Plan for transit to Kingman Airport Industrial Park put on hold after limited employer interest

City transit staff told the Transit Advisory Commission on July 28 that proposals to extend or modify routes to serve the Kingman Airport Industrial Park are on hold after limited responses from employers. The commission heard that the economic development office contacted businesses at the industrial park to gauge interest in contributing to service costs and to determine whether employees would use a route; staff reported the responses were limited and generally not supportive.
Public Transit Superintendent Sherry said the department had considered options including splitting an existing route or adding a commuter route but that, because of the limited employer feedback, "any routing out to the airport is on hold." She noted the industrial training center at the site is scheduled to open in the coming months but said the department did not have enough evidence of demand or committed funding to add service in the current budget.
Why it matters: adding an hourly or commuter route to serve industrial employers would require operating funding and demonstration of ridership or employer participation; without that, staff said, the change could not be funded in this budget cycle. The commission did not take formal action on the item and asked staff to revisit routing options if conditions change.
