At the June 26 Board of Adjustment meeting the mayor introduced Alan Steger as the City of Watertown’s new city manager and said the City Council had unanimously approved his hire following a nationwide recruitment.
"Every member of the city council voted in the affirmative of hiring this man next to me, Alan Steger, as our next city manager," the mayor said, summarizing the council's decision and the council-led interview process.
The mayor described the search: the recruiting firm screened a large applicant pool, and the city narrowed candidates through several rounds before council interviews. The mayor characterized Steger as having private-sector experience and public-service qualities the city sought.
Alan Steger addressed the board and thanked members for their service, saying he appreciated their role and the challenges board members face. "I also sincerely appreciate each of you... You guys have a thankless job," Steger said.
The board offered welcome remarks and thanked Council liaison Randy Tupper, who said the June meeting would be his last as council liaison.
