Commission approves memorandum of understanding between Huron Community Campus and Northern State University

The Huron City Commission on Aug. 25 authorized Doug Peetz, executive director of Huron Community Campus (HCC), to sign a memorandum of understanding with Northern State University covering delivery of undergraduate and graduate academic programs on the HCC campus.
Peetz said the MOU had been reviewed by city legal counsel, by the HCC advisory board, and by Northern State University leadership. He told commissioners the agreement signature page was streamlined so the president of Northern State and the HCC representative would sign, rather than multiple deans. Commissioners asked whether the MOU’s effective date—listed as July 1, 2025—was appropriate; Peetz said the university had a delay while presidential leadership was in transition and the date reflected the program start.
Commissioners praised staff for the work negotiating the agreement and described the partnership as an asset for the community. The commission voted by roll call to approve and authorized Peetz to sign.
