Board adopts transportation handbook and campus-security officer manual; annual transportation routes approved

The Lake Monterey School District board voted to approve its 2025-26 transportation program, adopt an updated transportation handbook and adopt a campus-security-officer (CSO) program manual at the Aug. 12 meeting. Transportation Director James Kaylor told the board the route structure had few substantive changes from the prior year; some day-care stops were removed because the providers closed and staff made routine route-efficiency adjustments. Kaylor said some routes were rebalanced, drivers requested different assignments and the district adjusted assignments accordingly. Kaylor also said the transportation handbook was updated to reflect state-model policies and to add explicit wording about the use of district vehicles, safety bus rules and other items the district lacked in earlier drafts. Trustees reviewed the 62-page manual and asked clarifying questions before the motion to approve. The CSO manual had been developed over multiple years and incorporates practices drawn from other districts and local input. District staff said the manual covers program foundations, operational procedures and supervisory roles for school security staff. The board approved the CSO manual and removed the "draft" label. Board members moved and passed motions to approve the transportation program and to adopt both manuals; staff said they would implement the updated practices during the school year.
