The Keith County Board of Commissioners voted June 18 to transfer $100,000 from the county inheritance tax fund to the ambulance service fund to cover anticipated expenditures.
The board approved a written resolution directing the county treasurer to move $100,000 from the inheritance tax fund to the ambulance fund and stating that the ambulance fund will attempt repayment in three annual installments of $33,333.33 beginning May 31, 2026.
The resolution text presented at the meeting said the ambulance fund had projected expenditures greater than budget and cited a need to amend the 2024-25 ambulance service fund budget via resolution 2025-48. The motion to adopt the transfer was made by Commissioner Irvin and seconded by Commissioner Anderson; roll-call votes were recorded in the affirmative.
County officials said the transfer is intended as an intra-governmental adjustment to keep ambulance operations funded while the county plans for repayment. The resolution records the board
The board did not identify a specific source of new revenue to guarantee repayment beyond the three-year schedule; the resolution states repayment will occur "if the funds are available." The first scheduled repayment date is May 31, 2026.
The transfer followed routine county business earlier in the meeting and passed by unanimous roll call.
