Livonia City Council on Aug. 11 approved multiple special‑event requests on consent, clearing a neighborhood block party, two outdoor music events that required noise‑ordinance waivers, and the Clarenceville High School homecoming parade route and associated road‑closure permits.
Council approved an 18th annual Flamingo Boulevard block party submitted by Karen Wurden for Saturday, Aug. 30, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wurden said the event includes live music, karaoke and barbecue. The council placed the item on consent.
The council also approved a noise‑waiver request from Nick Cornell, general manager of Supernatural Spirits & Brewing LLC, for the Wild Wildwood Sourfest at 36685 Plymouth Road on Aug. 30, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., with live bands and outdoor pouring. Cornell said the event will be held in front of the brewery and that the business had recently completed repairs after a vehicle struck the building earlier in the year. The council offered the waiver on consent.
A second noise‑waiver request was placed on consent for a Sept. 27 concert at 9820 Levan Road organized by Jacob Irma (applicant spelled in materials). The applicant said the 2023 event had seven acts and a good turnout; he said neighbors were notified in advance this year.
For Clarenceville High School, the council approved the proposed homecoming parade route and closure of portions of Middlebelt on Sept. 26, beginning at 6 p.m. The council authorized Senior Police Officer Michael Arkelian to sign the Wayne County Road Commission permit on behalf of the city and accepted responsibility for city‑level indemnity for potential damage claims arising from the road closure. Kevin Murphy, athletic director, and Megan Fitzgerald (organizer) described the route and said the district and community groups would participate.
All special‑event and waiver items were placed on consent and advanced to the Aug. 25 voting meeting for final approval.
