City reports successful DTE EV ride‑and‑drive; 431 test drives and outreach to residents

City Planner Dr. Jake Parcel reported technical difficulties displaying slides but said the second annual DTE ride‑and‑drive presented about 15 different EV models, from compact passenger cars to larger SUVs. Parcel said there were 611 unique drivers present, 431 distinct test drives and 40 adult passengers recorded at the event, and that participation exceeded the previous year.
Parcel said the event supports the city's sustainability goals by letting residents and fleet managers test vehicles and by helping the city plan EV infrastructure. He said the city has been partnering with DTE and other electric providers on charging infrastructure and that the city hopes to expand EV options for residents and include EVs in the municipal fleet.
Parcel said the event will likely return next year at a similar time and that staff will share photos from the event with the council for public outreach.
