Resident asks council to send Eastgum–Bourne zoning question to planning commission

During the public‑comment period on Aug. 19, a Woodland resident asked the council to refer a potential rezoning of the Eastgum and Bourne intersection to the planning commission to accommodate ongoing vendor activity. "Because of this and the ongoing want of these citizens to conduct business here, I ask a motion to be made to take this to the planning commission to see if we could get this rezoned to a commercial commercial zoning instead of that residential," said Mr. Voorhees, who said the city recently removed a tree at the intersection and that the site has seen unlawful commerce under recent vendor regulations. Mr. Voorhees said the rezoning would create a "neighborhood market in the Fifth District besides that of just the US Safeway Plaza," and described his comment as his "only $2.02 cents for this meeting." The council received the comment during the general public comment period and did not take action on the request at the Aug. 19 meeting. No council member committed to a referral on the record during the meeting. The transcript indicates the public comment item closed and the council proceeded to staff and council statements and other agenda items.
