The St. Vrain Valley School District No. Re1J Board of Education on June 11 approved a negotiated agreement with the St. Vrain Valley Education Association that raises the district's base teacher salary and extends the master agreement through June 30, 2027. The motion carried on a roll-call vote with Mrs. Ragland, board president, and Mrs. Weiss among those voting to approve; several members were absent.
The agreement increases the district's stated base teacher salary from $62,500 to $64,500 and includes pay and benefit changes the district and association negotiated over nine sessions this spring. Amanda Thompson, a district staff member presenting the recommendation, said teachers ratified the agreement at 94.5% and described additions to workload, evaluation and MOU language.
"The teachers ratified at 94.5%," Amanda Thompson said, summarizing the association's approval. She told the board that the package includes a higher starting salary, optional AI-supported evaluation language for certain teachers, an appeals process for lateral moves, clarifications on planning time and class-size procedures, and extended memorandums of understanding for areas including specialized service provider stipends and career-technical pay study work.
Kara Smallwood, president of the St. Vrain Valley Education Association, thanked negotiating teams and highlighted the compensation outcome. "We are the top highest base pay in the state, and we're very proud of that," Smallwood said.
District leaders also described targeted percentage increases for other staff groups: Thompson reported a 4.19% increase for professional and technical and classified staff and a 3.86% increase for administrators. She said the district absorbed the employee share of increased group insurance premiums for the coming year.
Dr. Jackie Capuchin, the superintendent, placed the pay changes in historical context and described them as the result of a long-term effort involving community-supported tax measures and multi-year salary-schedule work. "It took a tremendous amount of focus and hard work," Dr. Capuchin said, tracing the effort back to past levy and scheduling decisions.
The master agreement term approved by the board runs from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2027. The board's recorded action reflects a formal approval of the negotiated agreement; the transcript shows no separate amendment to the motion before the vote.
