The institute—s director outlined five priorities: build trusted expertise, expand research impact, provide training and workforce development, facilitate a business community focused on land/water/air topics, and offer thought leadership to state and local policymakers.
The institute said it publishes an annual Land, Water and Air report that summarizes research and legislative-relevant findings; its 2025 priorities include studies on Utah energy needs and distributed energy, a Bear Lake study, water-smart growth tools for cities, wildfire fuel-treatment efficacy and a look at carp removal strategies for Utah Lake. The institute plans a legislative-oriented workshop on Oct. 16, 2025 to provide briefings for policymakers and staff.
The institute said it seeks to make peer-reviewed research easier for lawmakers to use in decision-making, and described partnerships with the Department of Natural Resources, the governor—s office and industry groups. It asked committees and legislators to contact the institute for tailored briefings and data assistance.
