Board approves Uno Casino truck-stop video-gaming application in Morgan City

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board voted to approve an original truck-stop Type 5 video draw poker license for Amelia Petroleum LLC doing business as Uno Casino for a proposed facility at 9699 Highway 182 East in Morgan City. Assistant Attorney General Andrea Nathan and Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement investigators presented the application and inspection findings. Investigator Glenn Barrett said he conducted suitability investigations of the two members, Shaquille Shamsuddin and Aslam Narani, and did not find information that would preclude their participation in the video-gaming industry. Barrett reported the establishment meets statutory truck-stop criteria, including truck parking constructed of asphalt accommodating 50 tractor-trailers, concrete travel lanes that satisfy ingress and egress requirements, a separate truckers' lounge, a full-service laundry, private showers for men and women, a travel store with trucker supplies, an on-site owner-operated restaurant and permanent fuel storage tanks. Barrett said Gulf Coast Complete Diesel Services, Inc. will provide on-site repair services. He also reported that all required licenses and permits were posted and valid at the time of inspection and that the 12.969 contiguous-acre site is not located within 1 mile of properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places, public playgrounds, residential property or buildings primarily used as a church, synagogue, public library or school. He cited "Louisiana revised statute 27 colon 4 22" as the one-mile statutory rule the staff applied in the suitability review. A motion to approve the truck-stop application was made by Miss Lewis and seconded by Judge Scholes; the board voted to approve the application with no opposition. No additional conditions or penalties were imposed at the meeting; the board record indicates the application was approved based on the investigator's suitability findings and the on-site inspection.
