Tunica County supervisors on Aug. 18 approved multiple Road Department procurement items, including purchase agreements for dump trucks and snow‑plow trucks, a repair authorization for an excavator, and a lighting replacement plan for the Canal Subdivision.
Staff presented a buyback option on a 2024 bid allowing the county to purchase three tri‑axle dump trucks at a reduced cost; the total for the three units is approximately $615,000, a projected savings of about $105,000 versus prior estimates. The board approved the purchase by voice vote.
The board also accepted a single bid from Tri‑State Truck Center for two new Class A snow‑plow trucks, financed through a government capital finance arrangement; the county will apply proceeds from the buyback savings toward the down payment. Supervisors authorized Thompson Cat to perform repairs to the county’s 313 FL excavator, with an estimated starting cost of $15,000 (final cost to be determined once the unit is disassembled).
Under area beautification, staff said the Canal Subdivision has numerous electrical defects and that replacing the existing heads would be cost‑prohibitive. The board approved replacing 19 failing lights with solar lamp heads, at an estimated cost of $17,005. The item was presented as consistent with the county’s existing urban renewal plan.
