Hancock County supervisors on June 16 approved a Motorola maintenance and service agreement covering the county's communications towers for the period July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, at an annual cost of $177,511.35.
County staff explained the contract covers monitoring, alarm response and repair of tower communications equipment; the vendor provides 24/7 monitoring and dispatches technicians when components fail. A staff member told supervisors the county has relied on the Motorola contract since the towers were built and that, without vendor support, repairs would typically cost substantially more and the county lacks in-house technicians to perform that specialized maintenance.
Supervisors recorded a 5-0 vote to approve the agreement; one supervisor asked whether the price was consistent with prior years and was told the contract includes an annual increase in the low-single digits. The board did not authorize any change to staffing or a separate procurement at the meeting.
