Claiborne County’s Road Department on Aug. 18 requested and the board approved four operational items: a $30,000 transfer from an asphalt line to a rock/stone line, a one-month rental of a road grader at $7,631, the transfer of an employee to a secretary role at $15.50 per hour (effective Aug. 19), and authorization to advertise for a daily/data clerk (inventory clerk).
Road Manager Porter told the board the rental is needed because the planned grader operator was ill and the department has funds in its seasonal-work account to cover the month. “I am asking the board to approve transfer employee 3358 into the position of secretary at a pay rate of $15.50,” Porter said. He also said the road department needed an inventory/daily clerk to track tools and equipment.
Nut graf: The board approved the requests after motions and seconds from supervisors; Porter said the rented grader and the reallocation of funds would allow the department to proceed with scheduled work without interruption.
Actions and next steps
Motions to transfer funds and to rent the grader were moved and seconded and the chair announced the motions carried. The board also approved the personnel actions and the advertisement for the inventory clerk; supervisors asked purchasing to ensure lease agreements and purchase documents were in order.
Ending
Road management said it would forward the lease agreement and purchase paperwork to the board president for signature and proceed with the rental and staffing actions once administrative items were complete.
