Parks staff told the commission crews have completed an enlarged, ADA-accessible entrance with new sidewalks and sod work at an unspecified park entrance and finished interior LED lighting upgrades at Superstition Shadows Park and sports fields. Liz said the city replaced older halogen fixtures with Musco dark-sky-friendly, fully shielded LED lighting and that Musco provides remote-monitoring capability and a 20-year warranty. "We actually won't have to do a single thing to the lights for the next 20 years," Liz said, describing remote diagnostics and service by the vendor.
Staff also reported completion of Multi-Gen Center restroom and shower renovations. The project increased the number of showers from the previous two (one in each existing restroom) to three individual shower stalls with dressing space and new countertops and partitions. Liz invited commissioners to view the remodeled space.
In addition, staff announced the south little-league fields won a national Fields of Excellence award for 2024; staff said the award recognizes 79 fields nationwide and cited recent fence repairs and renovations to the fields. Staff displayed photos of the work and said it was a nationwide honor for facilities in Apache Junction.
Liz noted some small punch-list items remain (for example, shower rods) and that some sod matching required extra attention, but said the finished spaces are functioning and staff will continue addressing minor items. No formal action was required at the meeting.
