Katie Gutter was sworn in as a member of the board of directors during the July 17 meeting.
Gutter read the oath on the record: “I, Katie Gutter, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States, the constitution of the state of Oregon and the laws thereof, and the policies of the [district]. During my term, I will faithfully and partially discharge the responsibilities of the office of school board member to the best of my ability.” The board welcomed her.
The meeting then moved to officer elections. Board members nominated John Ratemacher and Bridal Cleaver for board chair. The board called for a vote; members answered “aye” and the motion to proceed with nominations and a vote was recorded and carried. The meeting record shows the presiding officer then asked to turn the meeting over to Brooke to run the proceedings.
For vice chair, a nomination was made for Mark Sutton and the board voted, recording that the motion carried.
Why it matters: swearing-in completes the seating of the new member and officer elections determine who will conduct board business and set meeting agendas. The board recorded motions and votes during the meeting.
Next steps: newly sworn board member and officers will carry out their duties for the year as scheduled.
