District reports progress on seismic upgrades, gym and locker‑room renovations and Gilchrist CTE improvements

District staff presented a summer‑projects slideshow to the board Thursday showing progress on seismic upgrades, gym remodels, new vestibules and CTE facility work across multiple schools.
Dennis, the district’s facilities lead, walked the board through photos of the Chiloquin seismic project, saying crews “tie the whole building together” with straps and anchor hold‑downs so the structure will perform better in a seismic event. He said contractors are working to finish exterior items after students return so classrooms will be ready on time.
The presentation included images of ongoing gym work and permanent bleacher installations at Chiloquin, a new locker‑room remodel, HVAC controls upgrades and mechanical mezzanine work. Dennis said the Chiloquin jobs have experienced schedule setbacks related to tribal monitoring and other delays but remain on a completion path.
At Lost River and Bonanza the district reported new floor and roof work, replaced windows and improved fall protection on playgrounds; at Bonanza the district also installed an underground sprinkler system. At Gearhart and Mazama, hallway and shop floors were refinished and asbestos tile covered or abated where necessary.
The district staged a modular classroom pad at Ferguson; staff said the module itself is expected in November and crews have completed utilities and sidewalks as weather allowed. Dennis said the district is coordinating installation to avoid site damage and minimize disruption.
Gilchrist received a large package of improvements, staff said, including siding, insulation, new windows, a metal roof on a breezeway and a dust‑collection system for the shop. The dust collector requires a fire‑suppression hookup; staff said the suppression design is in progress and the collector is not yet operational. Officials said some CTE elements are grant‑funded while other work is district funded.
Superintendent (unnamed) and CTE staff said the Gilchrist CTE improvements are intended to strengthen a long‑running partnership with local industry and to provide occupational opportunities for students. The administration said restroom remodels planned in phases and other smaller projects will continue into the school year.
Board members asked about budgets and schedules; Dennis said most projects have finished under budget and that only the project requiring an unexpected fire suppression system exceeded estimates. Staff said they will circulate more detailed closeout numbers as final invoices arrive.
