Estacada board swears in directors, elects new chair and vice chair

The Estacada School Board swore in returning directors and elected new leadership at the Aug. 13 meeting.

The board administered the oath of office to returning directors — including Rosa Martinez, Whitney Lohmeier and Will Johnston — who each repeated the oath affirming support for the U.S. Constitution, the constitution and laws of Oregon and the policies of the Estacada School District. The oath was administered publicly by board staff at the meeting.

After the oath, the board took nominations for chair. Vice Chair Bridal received a nomination and, with no other candidates remaining after Director Will Johnson declined a nomination, board members voted in favor. "Motion carries," the board recorded when members raised hands to approve Vice Chair Bridal as chair.

The board then nominated candidates for vice chair. Director Ben Wheeler and Director Johnston were both nominated and asked whether they were willing and able to serve; Wheeler and Johnston both indicated they were willing. The board conducted a show‑of‑hands vote first for Wheeler and then for Johnston. Director Johnston won the vote and was sworn in as vice chair.

The board confirmed the meeting had been properly noticed and then approved the meeting agenda by motion before proceeding with reports and business.
