The Glendale City Council on Aug. 12 voted unanimously to protest a nontransferable Series 10 beer-and-wine store license application for Market and Smoke, 6530 W. Glenel Avenue, citing a Glendale Police Department background investigation recommending denial or protest.
Budget and finance director Levi Gibson told the council that, "based upon information obtained as part of the background investigation conducted by the Glendale Police Department, it is determined that it is appropriate to recommend the denial or protest of this liquor license application." Deputy City Manager Saint John was available for detailed questions on the investigation, Gibson said.
Councilmember Bart Turner moved to protest the application (identified in the staff read as license number 600000068-L10 and later referenced in the motion as application 350730). The motion was seconded by Councilmember Lupe Conchas. The clerk conducted a roll call vote in which Councilmember Leandro Baldenegro voted aye; Councilmember Lupe Conchas voted aye; Councilmember Diana Guzman voted aye; Councilmember Milner voted aye; Vice Mayor Lauren Tomachoff voted aye; and the mayor voted aye. The motion carried unanimously.
The council's action is a formal protest filed by the city against the liquor-license application; council members did not discuss other remedial measures at the Aug. 12 meeting.
