Representatives from the Young Adult Development Association (YADA) of Havasu briefed the City Council Tuesday about a free youth event the group is hosting this Saturday at the Lake Havasu Aquatic Center.
The event, called "Hobbies Not Habits," will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will feature nearly 40 vendors offering pro‑social activities to promote protective factors and reduce youth risk behaviors. The YADA presenter said the coalition will provide free giveaways and lunch for participating youth and families and encouraged community organizations to host activity booths.
Who spoke: Edward Farrington, a volunteer, said he will run a leather‑craft booth where children can make bracelets and key chains. A representative from Community Medical Services, Mona, said she will bring bead‑making activities that can double as a stress‑reduction tool for teens, noting anxiety is prevalent in the teen population.
Why it matters: Organizers said the event focuses on providing prosocial activities and resources to keep young people engaged in positive pursuits. The YADA representative said the event has grown each year and urged residents to attend; flyers will be available at the back of council chambers.
Next steps: The event is open to the public and organizers invited council and residents to attend on Saturday; no formal council action was required.
