The Lake Havasu City Council approved the cooperative purchase of 34 vehicles for multiple city departments and refurbishment of four police vehicles during Tuesday’s meeting.
Fleet and procurement staff said the city fleet includes roughly 575 units and departments use a points‑based replacement program. This year 82 units qualified and staff prioritized 34 for replacement, citing age, mileage and mission needs. The purchase package includes 28 Ford vehicles from San Tan Auto Partners LLC, one Nissan, one Bobcat Toolcat, a forklift, and three Freightliner dump trucks; the council also approved refurbishment of four police vehicles by Wild Rose Motors LTD and authorized a cooperative purchase agreement with Freightliner of Arizona.
Fleet manager Bill Young said the city uses total‑cost and warranty comparisons when choosing replacements; for example, some Polaris Rangers were replaced with Ford Mavericks in part for longer warranties and on‑road safety considerations. Council members asked about specific uses for park, airport and DSD vehicles; staff identified assignments such as superintendent vehicles, airport perimeter rounds, and inspectors’ trucks.
Council member David Diaz moved to approve the cooperative purchases and refurbishment; Council member Jim Dolan seconded. The motion passed 7‑0.
Outcome: Cooperative purchases and refurbishment authorized; staff may exercise renewal options through January 17, 2029, for Freightliner purchases and proceed with local procurement steps.
