The Lake Havasu City Council approved a $224,200 professional services agreement with Electrical Safety Specialists (ESSS) to perform an arc‑flash study and implementation project across more than 150 municipal electrical sites.
Fire and utilities staff said the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the National Electrical Code (NEC) require cabinets to be clearly labeled with arc‑flash and shock hazard boundaries and the minimum required personal protective equipment. The project will inventory electrical assets, model each system with single‑line diagrams, produce and apply standardized labels, and deliver final reports and drawings.
Public Works and utilities staff said the work covers a broad set of facilities including the airport, city hall, fire stations, parks and rec facilities, pump and lift stations. Assistant staff described the label that will be applied at each location; labels will show arc‑flash risk, shock hazard, approach boundaries and minimum PPE such as face shields, gloves and ratings.
Janet Hart (assistant presenter) told the council the anticipated completion date is May 2026 and the work is intended to maintain compliance with NFPA/NEC and OSHA guidance; she noted the city’s last full update was about five years ago and the standards require periodic updates. Council approved the agreement 7‑0.
Outcome: Contract awarded to ESSS for $224,200; work to include data collection, system modeling, label creation and reporting, with completion expected in May 2026.
