Dunn County Health Department monitors measles exposure, reaches out to low-immunity school communities

KT said local public‑health staff were reviewing a two‑hour exposure window at the Flying J in Hammond and notifying potential contacts.
KT told the board that community‑based providers who serve Plain (Amish/Mennonite) communities in the region are concerned about unreported cases and additional exposures due to low immunization coverage in some local schools and communities. She said the department is working with school nurses and administrators at a Mennonite school and other local schools with low immunization rates to make sure they know available supports and to encourage appropriate quarantine and clinical follow-up for exposed, unvaccinated individuals.
Public-health staff asked residents exposed in the described locations who are unvaccinated to watch for symptoms and to call a health-care provider before seeking care in person to avoid additional contagion. KT said current confirmed Wisconsin cases were limited at the time of the meeting but that the department remains alert and will coordinate with state public‑health authorities as new information becomes available.
