The Greenville City Council voted Aug. 12 to approve Change Order No. 9 with Dobson & Peterson Construction for construction work related to municipal facilities, including pool-area coatings, sprinkler-protection cages and irrigation work at Reese. City staff described the primary elements of the change order. Staff said drawings showed high-performance coatings (HPC) applied to some structural steel in the pool area but one drawing omitted the top-side coating, so the contractor will perform additional work. Staff said the total roof replacement cost for the affected area is approximately $250,000 but the city—s share for the HPC application and associated painting would be about $40,000. Staff also described adding protective cages to sprinkler heads in the gym areas, citing examples elsewhere where unintended impacts to sprinkler systems caused flooding of finished floors. In addition, staff said irrigation piping around a concrete walk at Reese would be fully replaced to accommodate the new concrete work. A council member asked whether change orders and project spending could be posted online for transparency; staff agreed to add that content to the city—s website. Council approved the change-order action unanimously.
