Arizona House names temporary Rules committee members; multiple Senate measures given first reading

The Arizona House of Representatives on Wednesday appointed temporary members to its Committee on Rules, gave first readings to a group of Senate measures and set committee meeting and caucus times before adjourning until Thursday.
Speaker: The chamber recorded that Representative Diaz was appointed temporary chairman of the Committee on Rules and would replace Representative Hendricks on that committee for Thursday, June 26, 2025. The House also recorded that Representative Quang Nguyen would temporarily replace Representative Veil Carter on the Committee on Rules for June 26.
The House completed first readings of a group of Senate measures listed on the calendar (including a sequence of Senate bills and two Senate concurrent resolutions) and, without further debate, assigned all measures that were first read to the Committee on Rules and placed them on file. The clerk was directed to enter the Senate messages on the calendar into the House journal and to convey unamended measures to the governor.
Representative Willoughby announced the Committee on Rules would meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 26, in Hearing Room 4, with caucus to follow upon adjournment of rules. Representative Buterres announced the House Democratic caucus would meet upon adjournment of rules in Hearing Room 2. The chamber’s schedule therefore placed Committee on Rules consideration and internal caucuses on the immediate agenda for June 26.
Majority Leader Carbone moved to adjourn the House; the Speaker put the question and the ayes prevailed. The House stood adjourned until 1:15 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2025.
The actions taken during the brief floor session were procedural: appointments to cover Committee on Rules membership for June 26, referral of first-read Senate measures to that committee, scheduling of the committee meeting and caucuses, and a formal adjournment.
