Council Accepts $12,000 State Grant to Fund ‘Warm Zone’ EMS Training

The Bedford Town Council on May 21 voted 6–0 to accept a $12,000 grant from the New Hampshire Department of Safety to fund “Warm Zone” rescue task force training for emergency medical services personnel.
“It's an active shooter threat program that the fire academy puts on for us, at no charge to the town. It will cover overtime and backfill costs,” said Captain Tierney of the Bedford Fire Department, who presented the request. He said roughly 16 town personnel and four law-enforcement officers will attend the training, which begins June 25 at Peter Woodbury School.
Councilor Michael Strand moved to accept the EMS Warm Zone training grant and to authorize the town manager and fire chief to execute any necessary documentation; Councilor O'Sull seconded. The motion passed, 6–0.
Captain Tierney and council members emphasized that the grant carries no tax impact and will let the town train staff “up to a quality level,” Tierney said.
The council’s vote authorizes the town manager and fire chief to sign grant documents and expend the funds for approved training costs.
