Warren Gookin of 1378 Southwest Alexander Drive told the Dallas City Council on Aug. 4 that ongoing conditions at 1353 Southwest Alexander Drive are creating neighborhood nuisances and health concerns. Gookin said he has raised the issue with city code staff over multiple years and that problems persist.
In his three-minute public comment, Gookin said vehicles at the property have been inoperable for months and repeatedly left in public view; he said vehicle covers have rotted or blown away and that oil drips and pooled grease have stained new pavement. He also complained of accumulated debris from demolished backyard sheds, overflowing gutters, dog feces and flies, loud stereo noise late at night and incidents of dogs getting loose.
Gookin said previous enforcement visits prompted temporary cleanup—he described code officers notifying residents before inspections, after which the apparent violations were briefly addressed. He asked the city to examine the property and review enforcement options, and also urged the council to adopt or enforce a noise ordinance that would limit loud music late at night.
City council and staff did not take immediate action during the meeting beyond receiving the comment; public comment is logged as an input for staff follow-up. The transcript records Gookin’s name and address as part of his remarks.
