The Plaistow Select Board on Monday tentatively scheduled meetings and set a timeline for the town’s fall budget process, including a combined meeting with the Budget Committee to review major department budgets.
Town Manager Beth Colby said department heads will meet with administrative staff in late August and she expects department budgets back in early September. The board discussed a tentative timeline that includes department‑head reviews in September, a Select Board presentation period in early October and a combined Select Board/Budget Committee meeting targeted for Oct. 20.
Board members discussed date constraints, holidays and members’ availability. The board tentatively scheduled regular meetings for Aug. 25, Sept. 8, Sept. 22 and a tentative Sept. 29; it set Oct. 6 and Oct. 20 (combined with the Budget Committee) for initial budget presentations. The board also scheduled Nov. 3, Nov. 17 and a tentative Nov. 10 as fall working dates, and Dec. 1 and Dec. 15 for year‑end business, with Dec. 29 tentative for any wrap‑up.
Colby and board members said the MS‑1 and tax‑rate timetable governs the calendar; she noted the MS‑1 deadline is Sept. 1 but said the town may file for an extension if needed. The board discussed running presentations earlier on some nights to accommodate five department presentations (police, fire, recreation, highway, library) and agreed to coordinate with the Budget Committee and department heads on precise start times.
No formal vote was required; the board agreed to notify the Budget Committee and department heads of the tentative schedule and to firm dates once department budgets are ready.
