Commissioners continue tourism-board bylaws for counsel review

Park County commissioners voted 3-0 to continue consideration of proposed tourism-board bylaws to allow county counsel additional review and to set guardrails for the board’s authorities.
The Park County Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 13 voted unanimously to continue consideration of proposed bylaws for the recently formed tourism board so county counsel may review and ensure appropriate legal guardrails are in place.
Commissioner Mitchell said the board preferred to “slow, steady, and doing it well” rather than rush adoption, and moved to continue the item to a future date so counsel could review the draft bylaws and clarify what the tourism board can and cannot do. The motion passed 3-0.
Why it matters: commissioners said the tourism board will receive part of lodging-tax revenue if the lodging-tax measure is adopted by voters, and the county wants bylaws that define the board’s authorities and spending rules. County counsel will review the draft and staff will return the bylaws to the board on a later docket for final consideration.
