Montgomery County public works staff told the Board of County Commissioners they will put several routine procurement and disposition items into motion, including bidding chemicals used by county crews, offering four pieces of surplus equipment for sale through Purple Wave, and pursuing design bids for Bridge 913A.
Brandon, a county staff member who presented the item, said the county needs to “get stock back up” for chemicals and that “several that we didn't bid out last time … need to this time.” He also listed four pieces of equipment recommended for sale on Purple Wave: a 2007 F-250 (equipment no. 120), a 1981 water truck (replaced by a new vehicle), a 2014 Caterpillar grader (no. 218), and a 2001 GMC Sierra (vehicle 107). Brandon said building maintenance may retain the Sierra if needed; otherwise it will be sold.
On equipment condition, Brandon said the 2014 grader is inoperable with a blown engine and “just under 13,000” hours on it. He noted past experience selling worn graders and that warranties cover major issues for recent purchases. Commissioners asked that listings also be advertised locally; Brandon said Purple Wave will photograph and post items and the county will publish notices in the local paper when items are listed. He estimated Purple Wave representatives typically take two to four weeks to photograph and load items.
On Bridge 913A, Brandon said the county applied to the off-system bridge program for funding and recommended going out for design now so the county would be “one step ahead” if selected. Bridge 913A was described as similar to a nearby bridge under construction (Bridge 913), with an approximate length of 152 feet compared with 208 feet for its counterpart. Commissioners asked about construction timing for the related bridge and were told the adjacent bridge remains on track for an August completion date.
The transcript records a formal motion and unanimous vote to authorize sale listings on Purple Wave; the bridge design request was noted in the minutes and presented as a staff request to go out for bids but no separate roll-call vote for design authorization appears in the public transcript. The county said it will advertise equipment sales both on Purple Wave and locally and may delay Purple Wave photo scheduling if equipment retention is still under consideration.
