Eddie Reneo, the new director of golf for the Rec Centers of Sun City, introduced himself at the June 26 board meeting and outlined his approach to golf operations.
Reneo told the board he spent 15 years as a director of golf at Sun Lakes-area courses in the Phoenix region and earlier worked in PGA golf management programs. “I'm excited to be here,” he said, adding that his priority is to “take care of the residents” and train staff to provide a consistent experience. He also called himself “director of fun,” saying he wants golf operations to emphasize member experience.
During later discussion around the North Course motion, Reneo answered technical questions about bunker systems, explaining that liners and drainage systems typically last around eight years in local conditions and that maintenance and weather affect longevity. He described past local renovations where liner materials and sand mixes influenced holding and compaction, and said full rebuilds that include drainage and proper liners typically extend useful life but still require ongoing maintenance.
Board members signaled they intend to include the director of golf in design and planning for course projects. Vice President Netesheim and other directors said they expected Reneo to be closely involved in the North Course design and future golf planning; Reneo said he planned to be engaged in design review and operations planning.
